Code of conduct
Last updated · 20 October 2026
Unblock AI is a place to learn about AI from each other. We expect everyone at our meetups, in our WhatsApp group and online to treat others with respect. Harassment is not tolerated in any form. If something happens, tell an organiser in person or write to [email protected]. We will listen, act and keep your report confidential.
Who this applies to
This code applies to everyone who takes part in Unblock AI: attendees, speakers, hosts, sponsors, volunteers and organisers. It covers our meetups and conferences, the venues and any social part of the evening, the WhatsApp group, our Luma pages and any other space we run, online or in person.
What we expect
- Be kind and patient. People come from every background and at every level of experience with AI.
- Share the floor. Let others finish, ask questions in good faith and keep the Q&A for questions.
- Respect privacy. Ask before you photograph or record someone up close, and do not share another person's contact details or screenshots of private conversations without their permission.
- Respect the format. Talks show real work. Keep sales pitches and recruitment monologues out of the room and out of the group.
- Respect the venue and the host. Follow their rules on access, safety and alcohol.
What is not acceptable
- Harassment, intimidation or threats, in person or online.
- Offensive comments or jokes about gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief.
- Sexual images or language in talks, slides or messages, unwanted physical contact and unwanted sexual attention.
- Stalking, following someone, or photographing or recording someone who asked you not to.
- Repeatedly disrupting talks or conversations.
- Spam, unsolicited sales messages to other members, or adding people to lists they did not ask to join.
- Encouraging any of the above.
Reporting
If you experience or see something that breaks this code, or you are worried about someone's safety:
- talk to any of the organisers (Pedro, Catarina or Diogo) at the event;
- write to [email protected];
- in an emergency, call 112.
You can report anonymously. Tell us what happened, when and where, and who was involved if you know. We will not share your name with the person you report without your consent.
If the report is about one of the organisers, you can write directly to one of the others.
What we do
We will read every report, talk to the people involved when that is appropriate and decide what to do. Depending on what happened, we may:
- ask the person to stop;
- ask them to leave the event, without a refund where a ticket was paid;
- remove them from the WhatsApp group or other channels;
- refuse their registration for future events;
- contact the venue or the police.
We decide based on the facts and on the safety of the community. We will tell the person who reported what we did, as far as we can without exposing others.
Speakers and sponsors
Speakers and sponsors follow the same code. Talks, slides, demos and stands must not include sexual or discriminatory content. If a talk breaks this code, an organiser may stop it.
Changes
We may update this code. The date at the top shows the latest version.
This code draws on the Contributor Covenant and on common practice at technical conferences.
